Thornton Villa and its semi detached partner was built by Joseph Copley to planning approved February 1883. Copley appears to have occupied no.16 (originally no.3) until at least 1894 as in 1897 a Mrs Copley is listed here. Contractor Thomas Lane seems to have been an early, probably first, occupant of no.15 (originally no.4). A garage and house 'alterations' for J Howitt were approved by planning in July 1930, architect John Davis (Diocesan Surveyor for Lincoln). The Hewitt's were in Norton Villa (no.14) until at least 1901 but the family then lived at no.15 until at least 1965.

House built by Samuel Horton, builder, named Wainfleet House. Horton is listed here in 1897, and he is also listed as builder for a number of houses on the road. Planning files give him as owner of one house, no.14, approved in December 1895, apparently for himself. He is still listed here in 1919 but in 1928 a side consulting room and waiting room were added for Dr J W Dalgleish. This extension now seems to be the no.16. The current OS map shows it as 1 to 7 suggesting it is now 7 flats as the 2018 planning application that included conversion of the garage into a 1 bed flat.

The Willows is shown on the 1885 OS map but my earlier maps don't reach out of Lincoln this far. The Character Statement for the area describes Hamilton road as new in c.1860; it's not in Akrils 1857 directory and I can't find it in the Post Office 1868 directory. In White's 1872 directory there is only one house in Hamilton Road occupied by William Mason music dealer who is listed in 1885 at the Willows. It suggests therefore house was built 1869 to 1872, presumably for Mason. It seems half of the 1994 garage (that replaced an earlier version) was converted to an office in 2007.

Planning records seem to suggest Hamilton Villa, no.10 was built from approval in April 1882 for E Walstow and Fern Villa, no.8 in January 1883 for John Machon, the architect being J T Drury in both cases. Although the roof appears to be contiguous the brickwork shows a gap between the two. I don't know if they were built to let but by 1885 occupants are listed in directories as no.8 Samuel Machon and no.10 Albert Ellison Rogers. They had moved on by 1889 and directory entries include; 1889 8 George Jas Lang, 10 Henry Priestland. 1894-1897 8 John Slater, engineer, 10 Mrs H Priestland. 1901 8 Joseph A Wesley, 10 Mrs L Priestland. 1909 8 John Frederick James, 10 William Rusling. 1905 8 J F James, 10 Mrs E Kitchingman. 1913-1919 8 J F James, 10 William Rusling engineer's clerk. 1965 8 Ralf Bates, 10 Mrs A E Nettleship.

Large detached house named Southfield and built 1891 (name/date plaque - planning approved Oct 1890) for Thomas Wallis JP Timber Merchant and one-time alderman, by architect W Mortimer. Thomas is still listed here in my 1919 directory. Southfield had a large garden (c.2000 sq m - 0.5 acres) between Derby and Weir Streets on which was built 2-5 St Catherines Road, the Coach House and 5 Weir Street (all seem to be on the 1920 map). At least two plans for various housing arrangements had been made prior to Southfield but not implemented. The Coach House was built as a stable for Southfield and later converted to residential.
