Motherby Hill (Upper Section), Lincoln
Looking towards the top of this ancient thoroughfare (and exit on Spring Hill). Apparently there is evidence to suggest that the land on the left would have been outside the western boundary wall of the former Roman fort. The modern houses known as "Alexandra Court" are situated at the eastern end of Alexandra Terrace and if you look carefully you can - perhaps - see where a path or alley branches off to the left to reach this road?

Motherby Hill (Upper Section), Lincoln
From near the top of this ancient thoroughfare with views of the west side of the city. This pathway formed of stone setts follows the line of the former western boundary wall of their fortifications during the time that the Romans occupied Lincoln. The lower gate (West Gate) is said to be buried under tarmac where this path joins West Parade.

Are you mad? I'm not going down there. I would only have to come back up again, and that would probably finish me off.

South Lincoln, Panorama
Panorama of South Lincoln seen from the top of Motherby Hill. This picture shows just how flat the landscape is around Lincoln and why the Cathedral, which stands on the summit of the hill, can be seen from a great distance.
