Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower
Impressive landmark in Leicester Town Centre with TX Maxx in the background
The Clock Tower was constructed in 1868. The tower was built mostly in Ketton stone with a base of Mountsorrel granite, and incorporates column shafts made of polished Peterhead granite and serpentine. The statues were made from Portland stone. The site was directly above the junction of two of the city's main sewers which were modified prior to the tower's construction.
Officially a memorial, the Clock Tower has four statues of sons of Leicester, one at each corner. The figures are Simon de Montfort, William Wyggeston (spelt 'William Wigston' on the tower itself), Thomas White and Gabriel Newton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haymarket_Memorial_Clock_Tower.

Where Are You Mr Kiesa?
This building, although attached to the Haymarket Centre was built around 1969/70 and really is concrete at its finest! There was a 'famous' sequence in 'The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole' (1987), where Adrian was crouched on the first floor balcony reeling from teenage angst! As for 'Mr Kiesa' on the left of the balcony, this is reputedly a large, redundant venue now vacant for some 20 years.

Night Befalls The Clock Tower
If you look carefully, you can see the 'Restrictive street furniture' in the foreground. Gallowtreegate is in a period of change and just for now, the surface is finest Tarmac. Maybe it's the finished product???
