The 13th century tower seems to have a distinct lean.

Brooke Church
Seen here from the gate on Church Lane, the tower of St Peter's Church is 13th century although the crenellated top was added later. The rest of the church, however, was extensively rebuilt in Elizabethan times - an era when church building was a rarity. It is believed that this came about because Sir Andrew Noel, who acquired the former monastic property in Brooke, decided to restore the village church at the same time as he was building Brooke House.

Brooke: St Peter - from the south east
A view from the lane, just as a bright early-October day was about to cloud over. "Brooke leaps from Norman arch to Elizabethan as if Gothic had never existed" (Simon Jenkins, "England's Thousand Best Churches").

The approach to St Peter's Church, Brooke
In a county of interesting churches, Brooke is one of the most delightful. It is a remote place with an attractive approach down a grass path. The interior was furnished in Elizabethan times which is a very unusual period for restoration.

Pond at the eastern end of Brooke
Rather too ornamental to be simply a field pond.
