Victoria Wells Chalet Motel near Llanwrtyd Wells
This view is from the footpath which passes these holiday facilities and the nearest hut is the restaurant, with apparently other huts and chalets dotted about amongst the 10 acre site. A nice spot for sure. The monument is to a past Mayor of Llanwrtyd who died around the time this facility was established. (I expect he would be amazed to know that it still stands over 100 years later).

Footpath beside the River Irfon in winter
The footpath here is part of the 'Town Walk' from Llanwrtyd Wells. Out of the sun and next to the icy waters the air temperature is cheek-numbingly chilly and very 'bracing' but still popular with walkers, with several passing me today.

Tree in winter
This time of year is great to be out walking and the cold conditions improve this - the shapes of trees is emphasised once they are stripped of leaves and this oak with the sun behind its trunk shines ephemerally as I pass.

Footbridge over the River Irfon near Llanwrtyd Wells
A local waymarked trail signposted 'Town Walk' leads along the riverbank to the north-west of the town and looks to be a beautiful and easy walk at any time of the year, but after a light snowfall, in a sunlit hoar frost I must say it could be argued to be at its very best. Mallards seem to prosper on this part of the Irfon and inject some colour, noise and activity to this section.

Derelict Dol-y-Coed spa well at Llanwrytyd Wells
The derelict "stinking well" in the grounds of the Dol-y-Coed Hotel, Llanwrytyd Wells. There was a very strong smell of sulphur from the water that flowed freely. Some of the elaborate mosaic work which decorated the well can still be seen. This was one of a number of spas which once flourished in this beautiful countryside.

Gelynos signboard
Signboard of Gelynos Cemetery, giving the dates of the old chapel, 1693-1906. Important as it was the first Congregational Chapel in the area.

Old car near Dol-gau
This Kia Pride is a V reg dating from '99-2000 if I am correct and has already found it's graveyard here just a short way from the River Irfon near Llanwrtyd Wells. Despite the scrappage scheme of a few years ago. What a shame. Someone once took a pride in it I'm sure. (Its front passenger seat is missing, the stereo remains and the other damage is obvious. Maybe it has a story to tell?).
