Bridge Road, Barrow-in-Furness
The big buff works is part of the huge BAE Systems site where the UK's submarines are built. On occasions large modules are transported along part of this road between parts of the site. One part of the site, possibly in the vicinity of the chimneys, is where complete steam turbine propulsion packages are tested before installation.
Be warned though, the site is under close surveillance and trespassers will be prosecuted.

Roundabout at the junction of North Road and Bridge Road
Beyond the roundabout is the Jubilee Bridge which links Barrow in Furness to Walney Island

A flavour of Barrow-in-Furness
This is Stanley Road and arguably captures Barrow in a shot - terraced housing, a high security wall and a looming shipyard building. I found this strangely attractive but didn't have time to wander up this street. I can't resist this type of industrial shot.

Barrow-in-Furness - cheek by jowl
Houses and heavy industry. The industry is BAE systems and the big grey, black and red hall is the new £130 million Central Yard Complex. This is part of a £300 million upgrade in preparation for the Dreadnought class of nuclear missile submarines (SSBNs) that will replace the current Vanguard class Trident missile boats.
I took this view precisely because of the juxtaposition. It took me 59 years to get to Barrow and it's quite possible I won't be back (not because I don't find it fascinating but because there's too much to do).
