The (S)laughterhouse, Fenwick Street, Liverpool
The pub is called the Slaughterhouse, and the comedy club that meets above it is the Laughterhouse. Try explaining to a foreign visitor why the two words are not pronounced nearly the same!

Classical face on India Buildings in Brunswick Street
A dramatic Italian Renaissance design fills the bottom of this window space on the India Buildings in Brunswick Street. The huge office block fills the space between Water Street and Brunswick Street and cost £1,250,000 when it was built between 1924-1931. It was badly damaged during the war and was restored in the 1950s.

5 Brunswick Street, Liverpool
The adjective in the current name is apt. A plain but stately Georgian facade with rusticated ground floor (and later doorcase) and very little decoration other than the usual exquisite proportions. Built 1798-1800, possibly to the designs of John Foster senior. Grade II listed.
It was built as a bank for Arthur Heywood, Sons & Co., an "exceptionally early purpose-built bank". The Noble House is a restaurant and bar.

The National Bank Limited - a bank of yesteryear
The former National Bank (built c.1920) at the corner of James Street and Fenwick Street. This strongly American-influenced design is by T Arnold Ashworth & Sons. This is now a wine bar. A very early Williams & Glyn's bank cash machine (ATM) is still there
Image, although not working of course, as is the nightsafe

Former National Bank, James Street, Liverpool
Strikingly tall, the zeitgeist from across the Pond. Portland stone, as usual, and the motifs Classical - see the Greek key frieze and giant Ionic columns. By T. Arnold Ashworth & Sons, c1920.
The First wine bar occupied the ground floor, flats above, and, above them, the usual jungle of masts.

National Bank, Liverpool
Or it was the National Bank until it was taken over by the National & Commercial Bank of Scotland, who also took over Williams Deacons Bank, and Glynn Mills & Co and the English parts became Williams and Glynns, before it all got merged into and with the Royal Bank of Scotland. That's about it, if my memory is correct.
See here for the earlier days of the National Bank (of Ireland); http://heritagearchives.rbs.com/companies/list/the-national-bank-ltd.html
It's now a wine bar. Apartments are available to buy or let on the upper floors.
