Pitcairn Outdoor Centre
This is the Glenrothes headquarters of Fife Coast and Countryside Trust who are responsible for (amongst other things) Lomond Hills Regional Park. Situated in Moidart Drive it is the base for the ranger maintenance team who look after paths, signage, etc., within the park. It is also the starting point for the several miles of mainly low-level paths of Formonthills Community Woodland. There is also a path from here which ascends to Purin Hill car park Image] for an of ascent East Lomond (Falkland Hill). Is this a counter?
Placed at the entrance to the car park at the Pitcairn Centre, Glenrothes, this post is matched by an identical post on the opposite side of the track. I assume that they are infra-red counters recording the number of visitors to this area. There are similar-looking posts elsewhere in the park. Pitcairn Outdoor Centre, Glenrothes
As well as being an access point for Formonthills Community Woodlands and the path to the car park at Purin Hill Image] the Pitcairn car park is also a recycling point. There are several paths leaving this car park: the one which those heading for Purin Hill and East Lomond must take goes through the open gate to the right of the image.
