Foot of the Townhill Road
The Townhill Road runs north (left) from the roundabout. I was in a bit of a rush to get back east of Edinburgh before the daily thrombosis of the City bypass so I missed out on the charms of the Tardis Cafe (blue sign). I hope it lives up to its name and serves mugs of tea that are bigger on the outside. I was so hungry I could have eaten a horse.

Leys Park Road
A dead end for motors, but a useful through route on a bike, using the old railway behind East End Park.

Appin Crescent
Appin Crescent is the start of the main eastward exit from Dunfermline, consequently it is always very busy and can be dangerous for pedestrians. The residents have been campaigning unsuccessfully for years to get a bypass. This view is eastwards. The floodlights of East End Park, home of Dunfermline Athletic can be seen in the top left of the picture.

Dunfermline loco shed, 1965
This was close to the former Dunfermline Upper station on the direct line from Dunfermline to Alloa via Oakley, all trace of which through the town has been obliterated. Locomotive 65288 in the foreground is one of Matthew Holmes's C-Class 0-6-0 freight locomotives for the North British Railway, later LNER Class J36. Introduced in 1888, several of the class lasted until the end of steam operation in Scotland, working coal trains in the Fife coalfield. 25 of the class served in France during WW1, in recognition of which they were given names, most unusually for freight locomotives. One of the class named 'Maude' (after the general) has been preserved. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6065169

Rose Crescent
Stone houses with some of the many for sale signs on display at the time. The market had collapsed - you can always tell when there is a slump from the number of fixed price signs on display.

Sinclair Gardens Roundabout
This massive roundabout, and its associated junctions, links five roads and almost covers the same amount of ground as Dunfermline town centre itself. At busy times it is an absolute joy to negotiate.

St Margaret's Drive
St Margaret's Drive was constructed in the late 1980s to carry traffic away from the town centre. At the north end it connects with the busy Sinclair Gardens roundabout.
