'Metropolitan' drinking trough in Richmond Park
One of many such troughs in this style around London, bearing the inscription (on the other side of this one) of the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association. Given the number of horse riders in the Royal Park, this may be one of the few that is still used as a trough. Certainly it is kept topped up, and there is a fairly modern steel tap at the far end for humans to drink from.

Ladderstile Ride
The 'ride' part of this road name presumably refers to its use as an entrance to Richmond Park for horse riders. But as the signpost shows, it now only has public footpath status. The 'ladderstile' at the park entrance has been replaced at some time by a tall metal gate.

View towards Ladderstile Lodge in late October
Ladderstile Lodge is one of a number of lodges within the Park which serve as accommodation for Park staff, including game-keepers. The lodge stands at what has for centuries been a pedestrian entrance to Richmond Park, allowing access from Kingston Hill. For many years access was by means of ladders on either side of the Park wall.
