Part of the station forecourt is used for car parking; the main car park can be seen beyond the tree, on the far side of Royal Drive.

Tattenham Corner station: possible railway relic? (SE&CR)
At older stations I always look round for relics of the many pre-1923 companies - or failing that, some trace of one of the 'Big Four' who were in charge from 1923 till nationalisation in 1948. Here - in a short search round I found no old buildings at all. The reason for that turned out to be pretty simple: a train overshot the buffers, doing so much damage to the old South Eastern & Chatham buildings (dating from 1901) that they could not be salvaged. The only objects of any age that I noticed were these gates. The ironwork could well date from 1901 (if not earlier), and the style seems compatible with the SE&CR's house style. Perhaps they gave access to a coal-yard - a feature that was pretty universal at the time. I've presented the image in monochrome to compensate for awkward back-lighting.

Tattenham Corner railway station, Surrey
Opened in 1901 by the South Eastern & Chatham Railway as the terminus of the line from Purley. View north towards the buffer stops. Change here for Epsom racecourse!

Tattenham Corner Station
View southward, towards Tadworth, Kingswood, Purley and London: ex-SE&CR terminus of branch from Purley. Normally it needs only 1-2 platforms, the rest only on Epsom Race Days, otherwise for storage of stock.

I feel that Dr Neil Clifton was being a tad (but only a tad) unfair in his comment in Image as he must have been standing right next to the two metal benches - indeed, part of one can be seen in the lower left corner of his photo.

Memorial to a suffragette
The appropriately-named and placed Emily Davison Drive is next to Tattenham Corner station. It was at Tattenham Corner during the Derby that Emily Davison threw herself under the King's horse on 4th June 1913. She died four days later in hospital. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Davison for more information.

Epsom: snow outside Tattenham Corner station
Looking towards the main shops in the Epsom suburb of Tattenham Corner. The road to the station is named Emily Davison Drive after a suffragette who came from these parts. She is best known for stepping out in front of King George V's horse in the 1913 Derby, at Epsom racecourse a short distance to our left, as a result of which she died from her injuries a few days later.
