At older stations I always look round for relics of the many pre-1923 companies - or failing that, some trace of one of the 'Big Four' who were in charge from 1923 till nationalisation in 1948. Here - in a short search round I found no old buildings at all. The reason for that turned out to be pretty simple: a train overshot the buffers, doing so much damage to the old South Eastern & Chatham buildings (dating from 1901) that they could not be salvaged. The only objects of any age that I noticed were these gates. The ironwork could well date from 1901 (if not earlier), and the style seems compatible with the SE&CR's house style. Perhaps they gave access to a coal-yard - a feature that was pretty universal at the time. I've presented the image in monochrome to compensate for awkward back-lighting.
