The Rubbing House from Chalk Lane
Chalk Lane is a minor road leading up to Epsom Downs from the Woodcote part of town. A key route onto the downs for walkers, cyclists and ridden horses, it's been subject to a traffic regulation order since 1922!

A Balcony with a marvellous view at Epsom Racecourse
The Rubbing House has this interesting balcony, with iron railings, which looks directly up the straight towards Tattenham Corner and provides a clear view of virtually all the Derby Course apart from the start. The public house is Victorian, but I forgot to look closely to see if the balcony and railings are of the same age.

The Rubbing House and the Holiday Inn Express
The Rubbing House is one of three pubs to overlook the downs, although it is now mainly a large restaurant. To the left is Racecourse Cottage, and occupying the left side is the Holiday Inn Express at Epsom Downs, opened in late 2008. A horse rider is visible just below the Rubbing House, exiting the hack area out onto Walton Road.
