Former Swan, Kingston
Alas, the pub shown in Image has now, according to the sign, become the "Centre for Useless Splendour". Although "The Centre is a virtual or unofficial research hub operating within the Contemporary Art Research Centre (CARC) at Kingston University" http://www.katymacleod.org.uk/uselesssplendour.html . The top half of this image appears, in glorious weather, at Image

Kingston upon Thames: The Swan
Fifteen months down the road from Mark's Image and The Swan in Mill Street stands in silent testament to the number of pubs that fall by the wayside every week. Not even the immediate proximity of the University of Kingston upon Thames was good enough to save this one.

Hogsmill River seen from Mill Street bridge
The Hogsmill River is a chalk stream since most of its water comes from the dip-slope springs at Ewell. Much of its course now forms a wildlife corridor followed by the London LOOP on its way to Kingston Bridge. In the centre of Kingston near Kingston University, the corridor is narrow and the river is largely in a concrete channel but it is still attractive in places as seen here looking upriver from the footbridge at the end of Mill Street.

The Centre for Useless Splendour
Sign on the wall of the former Swan Pub Image which is now closed. The centre for Useless Splendour is something to do with Kingston University art students http://blogs.kingston.ac.uk/fada/2010/11/19/the-centre-for-useless-splendour-invites-you%E2%80%A6/ but whether they still meet splendidly at this sad and boarded up venue is unclear. It doesn't seem likely.

Hogsmill River in Kingston upon Thames
This photograph serves to illustrate how a combination of heavy overnight winter rain and saturated ground upstream can turn the benign watercourse seen in Hugh's Image into a dangerous raging torrent. This is about one kilometre upstream of the confluence of the Hogsmill River with the River Thames.

Hogsmill River (part thereof)
An old mill cut splits the river at this point. The island and an area to the south is now accommodation for Kingston University students

Waste in the Hogsmill
From the looks of it and a similar water wheel behind the wall the red wheel in the river has most likely come from the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture, Kingston University. They certainly used to treat the river and surrounding area with some contempt with their works.
