Shaw Monument
No one really knows the origin of this cylindrical tower with the crown-shaped top. It could perhaps have been used as a falconry site. It lies just outside Prestwick Airport but is easily accessible on foot.

Aircraft enthusiasts at Glasgow Prestwick Airport
A large number of plane spotters were at Glasgow Prestwick Airport to see aircraft displaying at the Scottish Airshow at Ayr Low Green using the airport. The Vulcan bomber XH558 ‘The Spirit of Great Britain’ caused a lot of excitement and even staff members from the control tower on the right were out on the balcony to witness the impressive fly past. For a closer view of the Vulcan, see

Aircraft enthusiasts at Prestwick Airport on Sunday 7th September 2014
A good number of plane spotters were out to see aircraft at the airport that had displayed at the Scottish Airshow at Ayr Low Green the day before. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight consisting of two Spitfires and Two Lancasters scheduled to appear at the airshow was cancelled due to bad weather at RAF Coningsby, but they were able to fly on the Sunday to the Portrush Airshow in Northern Ireland, and they performed a fly past and landed at Prestwick for a short period. The BBMF was a wonderful sight and well worth waiting for.

Waiting for the Sea Kings
Plane spotters gathered at Prestwick Airport to see the last Search & Rescue Sea Kings from HMS Gannet at the end of their farewell tour of their former operational area. The helicopters have been a familiar local sight for many years. Replaced by a privatised service in early January 2016, HMS Gannet was the last military base in the UK to provide Search & Rescue flights.
