Crosshill Field of Hope
Crosshill's Field of Hope was planted in 2012 in support of the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. In these days of Coronavirus lockdown, the daffodils are specially symbolic of hope and new growth. The village play park is shown in the background, out of bounds at present.

Snowy scene in Crosshill play park
Walking conditions were difficult during this cold spell in January 2021 due to ice. There had been only light snowfall but it lay for two weeks.

Crosshill village playpark
Some new equipment has been installed at Crosshill village playpark since the previous photo was taken. Image shows the same view from 2006. It’s tempting to blame Coronavirus for the absence of children but the current generation doesn’t seem to value these play spaces like their parents and grandparents did. This park was nearly always quiet anyway before lockdown. Although the park is closed at the moment, there are 2 access paths that can still be used.

Cuckooflower in the park
A closer look at the Cuckooflower or Ladies’ Smock (Cardamine pratensis) that has appeared in the uncut grass at Crosshill village’s playpark. It has never been visible here before now but must have been present under the soil, waiting for an opportunity to flower.

Cuckooflower in Crosshill village park
Cuckooflower or Ladies’ Smock (Cardamine pratensis) has appeared in the uncut grass at Crosshill village’s playpark. It has never been visible here before now but must have been present under the soil, waiting for an opportunity to flower. These grassy areas are not being cut during the Coronavirus restrictions. The flower is associated with the spring arrival of Cuckoos, though these birds haven't been heard here yet.

Golden-ringed Dragonfly on Buddleia
Described as a species that grabs attention, we found this beautiful male Golden-ringed Dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii) trapped in a crevice on our car. It clung to our fingers for a short while until we placed it on a buddleia flowerhead to let it revive. A real beauty!
