Laid
Laid is a long settlement on marginal land beside Loch Eriboll. There are areas of fertile, lime rich soils beside the loch. Laid is not on one of them, they would have been reserved for the post clearance flocks of sheep, not crofters.

Allt an Lagain by Loch Eriboll
This shows the burn running off after a spate. Compare it with Image It seriously wet conditions, no rock can be seen anywhere in the river channel from the skyline to the bridge from which the view was taken.
