Masonic Lodge, Alness
Lodge Averon No. 866.
The building has a fascinating history.. “The United Free Presbyterian Church stood at the corner of Union Street and Drummond Street, Inverness. It had been designed and built by the architect Alexander Ross in 1863/64. When the congregation of this Church moved to Ness Bank Church in 1901, the old Church was carefully demolished, the stones transported to Alness where they were rebuilt to form the building of Lodge Averon. The original site was taken over by the Royal Bank Scotland, with the Lodge building in Alness being completed by 1902/03". (Extract from http://www.lodgeaveron.co.uk/ )

Market Square, Alness
The information board in the centre of this image reads (quote): 'This square was redesigned and rebuilt as a result of requests during 1999 by the senior citizens in the surrounding houses to make maintenance easier. The town's local volunteer group set about and transformed the complete area, by raising all the flower beds and replanting. Flowering cherry trees were also planted and has now enhanced the ambience of the complete square'

The Perrins Centre
Opened in 1904 by Dyson Perrins as the Ardross Alness Club containing a library, a reading room and a billiard room.
The gift from the Lea & Perrins Sauce philanthropist, costing around £3000, was to provide "amusement and relaxation of the young men after their days work was done and the providing of sound, wholesome instruction which might induce young men to spend their evenings in mental and moral improvement."
Though the Perrins family had their home in Malvern, Worcestershire they also bought Ardross Castle in 1898 and regularly travelled between the two by train.
In Malvern they had their own stop at the bottom of their garden and at Alness railway station they had their own exclusive waiting room.
