Looking downstream from Toppesfield Bridge. This part acted as a mill pond for a former mill at the end of the straight.

Former mill stream, Toppesfield Mill
The mill burnt down in the 1920s, and now nothing is left of the actual mill apart from a machinery foundation block - the mill race is filled in. The River Brett passes through sluices on the right, when open (they seemed almost closed), and beyond these, over a weir. Weed and debris have accumulated in this dead leg.

Toppesfield Bridge, Hadleigh
Over the River Brett, a grade II*(star) listed building, and also a scheduled Ancient Monument. Said to be 14th century, there are three arches, only two were easily visible on the sunny side.
