Recently constructed block of flats on Mill Road, viewed from Ilford station
This block of flats was completed in 2009 and has been constructed on the site of an old water pumping station for the River Roding. Looking southwest from Ilford station.

River Roding at Ilford
The Roding flows for 50 kms from its source near Stansted Airport to the Thames with its tidal southern section known as Barking Creek. In theory navigable for small boats, the tidal section ends somewhere round here at Ilford Bridge. This looks like low tide just now.
The river banks have certainly gone back to nature since this picture from 17 years ago Image at the same place.

Ilford Pumping Station, steam pump
A 1905 Hathorn, Davey inverted vertical triple expansion steam engine driving well pumps via reduction gearing, pitman and L-bobs, and force pumps from the crossheads. This was scrapped sometime in the period 1982-1984. This system of L-bobs may be seen at Mill Meece Pumping Station.
