Former playing fields in Debden
Although this area of rough grassland is marked as 'playing fields' on the Ordnance Survey map it looks like some time since they were used as such. They are the private property of Epping Forest College, which is just the other side of Borders Lane, although there is free access.
The land is sufficiently high to give extensive views with the City of London and The Shard to the right and the Canary Wharf complex to the left.

Sports field
This was once the school playing field for Lucton Girls' School, which closed several years ago. It is now owned by Epping Forest college, who wish to build a sports centre on it. So this view may not be here for much longer. In the distance you can see Canary Wharf to the left, and the tallest buildings of the square mile to the right (the Swiss Re tower and Tower 42, or more commonly known as the Gerkhin and the Nat West Tower). Central London is 16 miles away from Loughton.

Colson Road, Debden
London County Council acquired land at Debden on the outskirts of Loughton in 1944 and built a large housing estate between 1947 and 1952. This was one of a number of similar schemes aimed at addressing the post-war housing shortage. The houses are typical of their time and most of these on Colson Road are arranged into short terraces. The overall effect is pleasant enough and residents who moved out here had the benefit of frequent Central Line services into central London.

The higher land in the distance is on the other side of the Roding Valley.
