London County Council acquired land at Debden on the outskirts of Loughton in 1944 and built a large housing estate between 1947 and 1952. This was one of a number of similar schemes aimed at addressing the post-war housing shortage. The houses are typical of their time and most of these on Colson Road are arranged into short terraces. The overall effect is pleasant enough and residents who moved out here had the benefit of frequent Central Line services into central London.
