Wincolmlee, Kingston upon Hull
No.153 Wincolmlee, former premises of W. & J. Oliver, Engineers & Smiths, whose name survives on the gable. Wall-tie plates on the side elevation carry the inscription 'W & J. Oliver 1922'. Now occupied by Stead & Smith Engineering.

Building on a corner site
A building such as this in an area such as this would likely have been a public house and indeed this was the case - the East Sculcoates Central Hotel. Old Harbour, River Hull, Kingston upon Hull
Standing high behind the shipping on the river is the mill of R & W Paul Limited, Wincolmlee. The traffic signals at the approach to the redundant Scott Street bridge can be seen at the extreme right.

River Hull, Kingston upon Hull
The Beverley & Barmston Drain flows beneath Wincolmlee and discharges to the River Hull, by gravity, at High Flags Outfall Penstock (sluice), managed by the Environment Agency. The river bank, south of the outfall, was in a dilapidated state, and has recently been improved. In the background, right, Nos.161 to 165 Wincolmlee.

The mill of Maizecor, formerly R & W Paul, Wincolmlee, dwarfs the surrounding buildings. The building on the extreme right fronts Lime Street.
The lack of shipping on the river is indicative of the decline in use of this mode of transport.

Wincolmlee, Kingston upon Hull
The former Cottingham Drain was constructed consequential of the 'Act for dividing, enclosing, and draining, certain Lands, Grounds, and Common Pastures, in the Parish of Cottingham, in the East Riding of the County of York' 1766. The drain discharged into the river Hull via a sluice immediately north of the mill in Wincolmlee adjacent to the Scott Street bridge. Although the drain was infilled in the 1960s, the sluice is still very much in evidence today.
