Old milestone
A close-up of the milestone in Walkington. This is the only known step milestone in this wide area of the East Riding that has a rounded top. The 3 square holes, 2 at the bottom, one at the top, show that it once had a metal plate. One for the benchmark enthusiasts too. Photo taken over 20 years ago is at Image and it hasn't weathered too much in the intervening years.

Old Milestone by the B1230, Main Street, Walkington
Stone post (plate lost) by the B1230, in parish of WALKINGTON (EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE District), Main Street, by No. 32, in pavement beside brick wall of house, on North side of road. Beverley mounting block - 2 step, erected by an unknown authority in the 19th century. Inscription once read:- : Beverley / 3 / South Cave / 6 360yds : Carved benchmark and rivet on front of bottom step. Milestone Society National ID: YE_HOBV16.
