Grade II* Listed Building http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1162300 Beverley was the centre of administration of justice in the East Riding. The Council Chamber and the old prison attached to the Guildhall in Register Square had been found to be inadequate, hence the construction of a new building in New Walk for meetings of Quarter Sessions. Consequential of the building of the new Magistrates' Court in Champney Road in 2001-2, a change of use of the former courthouse was approved; now occupied by Sessions Spa. The Police Station continues to occupy the adjoining wing next to Norfolk Street.

Norfolk Street, Beverley, Yorkshire
The East Riding House of Correction was built, simultaneously with the new Sessions House, 1805-10. The complex was closed when the institution was transferred to the Prison Commissioners in 1878 under the Prisons Act of 1877. In 1884 the former two-storey, brick Governor's House was sold to the Sisters of Mercy of Anlaby Road, Kingston upon Hull, who opened a branch of their convent here. The building was bought in 1959 and adapted as police accommodation in 1961-2. It continues to be occupied by Beverley Police Station to this day.

It costs 20p to 'spend a penny' in Beverley today, but you won't be able to make use of the facilities in the grounds of Sessions House. Urinal, late 19th century, made in Birmingham. Cast iron, panels with star motifs and geometrical borders in two tiers divided by a lower band of paterae and a middle band of Greek key motif. Openwork frieze and cornice. The loo has apparently been given a lick of paint recently; compare with Image . Grade II Listed Building http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1084002
