Holtby House, No.61 Thwaite Street, built 1871, later the family home of Winifred Holtby, author of the political novel 'South Riding', dramatized on BBC TV. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winifred_Holtby From the 1950s the University of Hull used the house as student accommodation - Philip Larkin's first billet when appointed librarian at the university. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Larkin The house is in private ownership again.

Holtby House, Thwaite Street
Among a series of impressive houses on the north side of Thwaite Street, east of the railway, Holtby House was built in the 19th. century under the name 'Bainesse' but was renamed in honour of the authoress Winifred Holtby whose family lived here in the 1930's.

Cleminson Hall
Most recently a student residence of the University of Hull until around 2004. The rest of the site has been cleared for building houses, which the sign advertises. The derelict original hall built as 'The Bungalow' remains but its final fate remains to be seen as at February 2012. Photographed from the junction of The Paddock and Thwaite Street.
