On the east side of the street, left to right: No.38, a warehouse converted for student accommodation; No.39, refurbished following a fire in 1989, no.40, headquarters of the Humberside Police Authority, originally built in 1899 for 'The Pacific Ltd'.

Bishop Lane Staith is accessed via the archway at No.40; it is opposite Bishop Lane on the other side of High Street.

No.40 is home to the Humberside Police Authority, originally built in 1899 for 'The Pacific Ltd', whose insignia may still be seen above the window to the left of the entrance.

High Street, Kingston upon Hull
A. Handyside & Co. Ltd., iron founder, Derby and London, was one of the first businesses to produce the new standard Post Office letterbox. This design was produced between 1887 and 1901. The design incorporates V.R., the royal cypher of Queen Victoria. This box stands outside No.40 High Street, the former Pacific Exchange.
