Hemel Hempstead: Paradise
On a gloomy Easter Sunday this unprepossessing road and its little industrial estate might not seem like Paradise, but is! Paradise was once a hamlet on the east side of Hemel, and this road, named Paradise Road then but just Paradise now, led to it.

Hemel Hempstead: Travelodge hotel
Hemel's Travelodge is in Wolsey Road. At the time of writing this the website http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=33 totally overenthusiastically stated that Hemel Hempstead railway station was 0.5 mile away. By my reckoning it is 1.0 mile away as the crow flies, more if not a crow...

Hemel Hempstead New Town
Looking west to part of Hemel Hempstead New Town from the multistorey car park in Wolsey Road. In the foreground is the main shopping street, Marlowes, and the tower of Hemel Hempstead School (1931) can be seen as a white speck on the horizon. Hemel Hempstead existed as a settlement in the 8th century, but saw rapid expansion of housing and commerce after it was designated a New Town in 1947 to take overspill from London.

Hemel Hempstead: Royal Mail Delivery Office
Presumably all mail with an HP* postcode gets delivered from the Royal Mail's Delivery Office here in Park Lane. The building has distinctive white clad roofs and walls. Although these must have looked brilliant on the architect's drawing board and when the building was first constructed, over time they have attracted a dark green fungal growth which makes the whole building look drab and dirty, far more so in some places on the cladding than is visible here.
