Nearly 12 years since I took
Image] and I'm pleased to report that La Chouette Belgian Restaurant is still going strong. It is situated on the green in Westlington, a hamlet which is joined to the larger village of Dinton. They are both remarkably pretty villages with a host of thatched cottages.

Westlington
On the 1940s OS map Westlington is given almost as much prominence as Dinton, but now it seems that the former has become an adjunct to the latter, with the cottages here being on Westlington Green, Dinton.

La Chouette, Dinton
La Chouette is a very good Belgian Restaurant in the beautiful village of Dinton. Chouette is an interesting word - "chou" is cabbage, so "chouette" could be little cabbage - and as such has become a term of endearment. Alternatively, chouette can also mean "great" or "the great one". However, this restaurant's sign gives the clue as to yet another meaning for the word - which is a rather old-fashioned (I believe) word for an owl, more usually referred to as "l'hibou" these days apparently - though I'm ready to be corrected by any French (or Belgian of course) visitors to this site !

Cottages on Westlington Lane
Westlington Lane runs southwest out of the village of Dinton with Wootton Lane crossing it. In fact this part of the village may be considered the separate locality of Westlington. The cottages shown here are typical of those found throughout the village.
