Path next to The Downley School
There are two paths here, one with a kissing gate and one with none. The gates to The Downley School is immediately to the left. The London Green Belt Way follows the path on the right at this point.

Downley Common: Bridleway to West Wycombe
Ah, the joys of a Chilterns walk - wide open spaces, grand views! Er, not...

Steps to Nowhere
These steps appear on a bridleway from West Wycombe to Downley Village. There is no evidence of anything at the top. The bridleway veers left from here and, as you can just see, to the right is a sunken track. This is possibly an old river bed and is a public footpath, it is also on the route of the London Green Belt Way.

Downley Methodist church
The older building, behind this one, is quite attractive, as seen in this photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/103115 by Andrew Smith. This modern extension is, in my view, quite ugly. There is a comprehensive junction of paths here at the edge of the Hughenden estate woodland.

Plomer's Green: Junction of bridleway and footpath to Downley
The bridleway on the left goes to Downley Common, the footpath on the right to Downley. In the middle is a flight of concrete stairs that lead to... er, nowhere. Doubtless countless generations of children, not to mention impressionable adults (!), have rushed up these stairs in eager anticipation, only to have their hopes dashed. Old maps sadly offer no clues. (From a strictly Geograph point of view this junction is clearly shown in the grid square to the north Image However on all the larger scales of Ordnance Survey mapping available it is clearly in this square.)
