Crowtrees Lane, Rastrick
This view is near the bottom end of the road. The 18C or early 19C houses on the left have been extended and the extension has a massive stone lintel over the garage door. At the top end of this block there are a pair of large stone gateposts (one just visible) that belonged to the demolished mill that was behind on the steep slope down to Tofts Grove.

The 'Spiral Stone', Crowtrees lane, Rastrick
Grade II listed, and considered to be contemporary to the cross base in the churchyard. The spiral is said to be reminiscent of a Bishop's crozier and therefore possibly marking an ecclesiastical boundary. However why should such a boundary be in the middle of a township, and why is it in Crowtrees Lane, which was not the medieval main road? Footpath off Crowtrees Lane, Rastrick
This short footpath goes steeply down to the Tofts Grove / Field Lane / Jumble Dike junction, and the upper part is surfaced with stone setts. The land to the right used to be a small common, but houses were built before 1850.

Crowtrees Park, Off Tofts Grove, Rastrick
This estate was built on the site of Crowtrees Mill (Woollen), and a high retaining wall has been necessary, perhaps where the mill building was built into the hillside.

Top of footpath to Jumble Dyke, Crowtrees Lane, Rastrick
This footpath is in a steep strip of land that might be a fragment of an old common. It has been unpleasant to use due to litter and weeds, but has recently been cleared by volunteers. Update: The footpath is next to the house on the left. It is not on the rights-of-way map as a public footpath, and about six years after this image was taken it was fenced off for a while by the landowner, much to the dismay of the local residents who provided sufficient evidence of usage for it to be classed as a public highway. It has now been re-opened.
