Stone post by the B6118, in parish of Kirkburton (Kirklees District), Highgate Lane, Kirkheaton Moor Top, junction with Hollin Hall Lane, opposite Blacksmiths Arms, at crossroads.

The milestone at the Blacksmith's Arms, Kirkheaton
The stone is dated 1738, and has distances in accordance with the then recent legislation. It is at an important crossroads on the Halifax to Barnsley Road, later to be turnpiked. The inscriptions (from a drawing in W B Crump's Huddersfield Highways down the ages) are: straight on (Highgate Lane) Barnsley 12 miles; back (Moot Top Road) Halifax 6 miles; left (Hollin Hall Lane) Dewsberry (?) miles; right (Heaton Moor Lane) Huddersfield (?) miles. The stone had been right on the corner, leaning precariously, but has been recently repositioned.
