Former Trolleybus depot, Huddersfield
This photo shows the former trolleybus depot in Great Northern Street near the town centre. It was built in 1887 to house the steam trams, but was then used as a tram, trolleybus and latterly a motorbus depot. The wording "TRAMWAY DEPOT" can be seen at the front of the depot, whilst trolleybus traction poles and lamp standards can also be seen in this photo. Before it was closed in 1997, the depot was known as Leeds Road Garage and operated by Kingfisher Huddersfield. The single-decker vehicle on the right of the photo in green and cream livery is a Dennis Lance with Plaxton Verde 49-seater bodywork. Huddersfield had 55 such vehicles delivered to them in 1995/6 but all have now been withdrawn. The depot was demolished shortly after closure and a retail park is now on that site. First Bus now operate most bus services in Huddersfield from their depot in Old Fieldhouse Lane off the A62 Leeds Road, SE1518 refers.
