Birkhouse Boiler Works
This is no longer a boiler works. The tall tower was a riveting tower for riveting boiler shells vertically. I suddenly realised I hadn't posted this view, although it is very similar to one by Humphrey Bolton.

Factory, Birkhouse Lane, North Crosland, Lockwood
When exploring these industrial areas one keeps coming across curious structures that seem to have survived from a previous use of the factory. In this case the factory was Birkhouse Boiler Works in 1907, and Chris Allen has informed me that the tall structure was a riveting tower.
