Old milestone
One of 28 Huddersfield TO and FROM stones recorded by the Milestone Society since 2001. Three have since been lost. They were set up at the end of the 19C by the Town Watch Committee to regulate the Hansom Cab Fare-stages. The first one from the town centre was always at 1 mile followed by each ½ mile to the then town boundary. This one is on the A640 at 60 Westbourne Road near to Croft House Lane. On the north side of the road so the FROM is on the right face and TO on the left. There is an OS cut benchmark on the bevel.

Old milestone
Looking towards Croft House Lane, the position of the 1 Mile TO and FROM stone on the A640 Westbourne Road can be appreciated. The property on the corner is being developed and a lovely new stone wall has been built.

Old Milestone by the A640, Westbourne Road, Huddersfield
Carved stone post by the A640, in parish of HUDDERSFIELD (KIRKLEES District), Westbourne Road, junction with Crofthouse Lane, by No. 60, by the road, on North side of road. Huddersfield 'To - From' stone, erected by the Huddersfield & New Hay turnpike trust in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:-
