Brook Crompton, Huddersfield
This works has been a fixture here since I was a child. It has had various names and owners but I remember it best as Brook Motors, manufacturers of electric motors. The company remains in the same business. Brook Motors was founded in Huddersfield in 1904 while Colonel Crompton formed his company in Chelmsford in 1878. The two companies merged in the 1970s. The company has also subsumed many other motor companies.

St Thomas's Road, North Crosland, Lockwood
This is a 19C road made to open up this flat riverside land for industry. Two blocks of back-to-back houses were built, of which one survives. The OS now omit the final 's' of the street name, but retain the apostrophe; that is of course incorrect. The 1907 map correctly shows 'Thomas's'.
