The Huddersfield Narrow Canal, heading out of Huddersfield. The viaduct ahead carries The Penistone Line railway as it leaves Huddersfield and heads southwards towards Penistone and Sheffield.

Former canal arm
Whatever this arm of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal served presumably disappeared when the railway viaduct was built overhead. Some have suggested that it was built as a winding hole.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal, Paddock Foot
Longroyd Lane is on the left and Manchester Road (A62) is crossing the canal just beyond the lock. The distant church spire is on a church that was associated with a huge textile complex (Starkey's Mill) that was demolished before I thought of photographing it. I grew up in this area.
