The pound above Coal Wharf Lock [2E]
When it was closed, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal lost its towpath access between Locks 3E and 1E.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal from Chapel Hill
As far as I can see this stretch of canal and Lock 2E can only be accessed by boat as there is a tunnel or bridge with no towpath at each end. In the background is Bates & Company's Fairfield Mills that is still in use for woollen knitted goods manufacture.

Lockside, Lock 2E
There is no towpath here, but plenty of space to work the lock. The restored Huddersfield Narrow Canal drops under the metal clad factory in a new tunnel.

Bates Tunnel, The Huddersfield Narrow Canal
This modern 100 yard tunnel carries the restored canal under a factory. Moving the second lock westwards, beyond the factory, left the restored canal low enough to pass through this built-up area. The white 'dots' are floating willow seeds.
