Huddersfield Library and Art Gallery
I borrowed my first books on steam engines from here in about 1976. This was opened in 1940 and was designed by E H Ashburner to a rather stark 'stripped classical design'. Apparently this style went out of fashion rather quickly as it was associated with the monumental buildings of totalitarian regimes. I rather like it and it does dominate its neighbourhood, and is of considerably more merit than the adjoining 1970s market - in my opinion anyway.
