Liverpool - Euston express near Kenton, 1948
View eastward from my favourite path in Northwick Park - see Image and others. The 10.10 'Merseyside Express' from Liverpool Lime Street is headed by the yet to be rebuilt (in 6/51) Royal Scot Class 6P 4-6-0 No. 46164 'The Artists' Rifleman', which was built 9/30 and eventually withdrawn 12/62.

Grasmere Avenue, South Kenton
Grasmere Avenue leads away from its junction with Windermere Avenue in this view. The sign on the roundabout reads:'Welcome to South Kenton and Preston Park Conservation Area S.K.A.P.P.R.A.'. This is a little odd because there does not appear to be an official conservation area by that name but the South Kenton and Preston Park Residents Association is evidently alive and well and has been active in the area since 1937. Certainly 20th century inter-war suburbs, with their classic and distinctive housing styles, seem worth conserving perhaps every bit as much as their Victorian equivalents.

Up express on the West Coast Main Line south of Kenton
View northward on the West Coast Main Line, just north of South Kenton Station (on the electric lines only). The ex-Metropolitan & Great Central line (Baker Street/Marylebone - Harrow-on-the-Hill - Aylesbury etc.) is crossing in the background (Northwick Park Station is off to the left). With the WCML Slow lines on its right, the express on the Up Fast is the 12.05 Manchester (London Road) to Euston, headed by LMS 'Jubilee' 6P 4-6-0 No. 45624 'St Helena' (built 10/34, withdrawn 11/63).

Intermodal Freight
Freightliner class 66, 66591, passes Northwick Park with the 4M81 Felixstowe North Freightliner Terminal - Crewe Basford Hall SSN service. Provision of the new Bacon Factory Curve connecting chord line in the Ipswich area will allow some of these services to be diverted via Ely and reduce pressure for freight slots on the southern section of West Coast Mainline temporarily - trains routing via Ely would join at Nuneaton. This view taken from the footbridge connecting the park with Conway Gardens.
