Shillinglee Park, Northchapel
A dignified house of 1776-78 for Edward Turnour Garth, Earl of Winterton. This was built at right angles to an earlier C18th house behind. Grade II* listed. The interior was gutted by fire in 1943 (supposedly by billetted Canadian troops) since when it has been converted to flats. The date of the photo is uncertain.

Shillinglee Park
Elegant red brick Georgian mansion of Shillinglee Park. It was converted into three large private apartments after finally being restored from a burnt out ruin in 1975. The fire occurred in 1943 when Canadian troops were billeted in the house. The adjacent golf club is closed in October 2009 while landscaping work is in progress.
