Electro-diesel at Godalming goods yard
This was the site of the original Godalming station, opened in 1849 as the terminus of the line through Guildford. The Portsmouth Direct line, which opened in 1859, joined the original line about 400m to the north, leaving the old station on a spur. It was closed to passengers in 1897. The goods yard was never electrified. New class 73 electro-diesels appeared on local goods trains in c1966. However, the goods yard was closed in 1969 and has since been redeveloped for housing (Old Station Way) and a builders' merchant.
