Gold and Silver for England
The English flag hangs from 2 flagpoles, along with the Canadian flag, during the medal ceremony for the Men's Pole Vault at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Hampden Park. The event was won by Steve Lewis of Stoke on Trent (5.55 metres), the Silver medal went to Luke Cutts of Sheffield (also 5.55 metres, but with more failures at the height) and the Bronze medal went to Shawnacy Barber of Canada (5.45 metres) The athletes on the track are members of teams for the women's 4x100m relay, awaiting the start of their heat. Commonwealth Games, 2014, 10,000 metres
A view of the mens' 10,000 metres from the upper tier of the stand, section Q. This is an early lap of the race with the competitors still grouped together. Already the eventual winners are within the first 6 or 7 runners - Moses Kipsiro of Uganda won Gold, Josphat kipkoech Bett of Kenya Silver, Cameron Levins of Canada Bronze. We had booked tickets for this session hoping to see England's Mo Farah win the 10,000 metres, but unfortunately he had withdrawn a few weeks earlier as he was not fit after an illness. We enjoyed the evening and the race anyway - the finish was close with the 3 leading runners sprinting from the end of the final bend that you see here, to the finish 100 metres to the right.

The fastest man on earth, on the best Geography site on earth
Usain Bolt, world record holder for the 100 metres, preparing for a heat of the men's 4x100m relay, at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow. His Jamaican team won the heat and went on to win the final the following day in a thrilling finish when Adam Gemili of England kept the English team in a good second place behind the Jamaicans. A junior tournament
On Queens Park (Lesser Hampden) a Junior Tournament is about to start between at least four teams that I could see. This is all happening after the 5 year olds have had their session and before the first team play in Scottish Division 2 in the afternoon, though they are playing away. A very busy ground.
