The road to Sticklepath
The road to Sticklepath from South Zeal passes over the ridge between the valleys of the Shelly Brook and the River Taw. This is the highest point of that road.

Old Milestone by former A30, South Tawton parish
Carved stone post by the UC road (was A30), in parish of South Tawton (West Devon District), by drive of Trafalgar House, South end of Sticklepath, against wall beside entrance drive to house, on East side of road. Okehampton tombstone, erected by the Okehampton turnpike trust in the 18th century.
Inscription reads:-

The Kings Arms, South Zeal
The pub has its origins in the late 16th century when it was a house. It is built of a mixture materials including cob.

Sign for the Kings Arms
The arms shown on the signs vary according to the king the artist had in mind. The sign would not have been used during the Commonwealth, but it has been a proud declaration of loyalty since the Restoration. For a wider view of the building Image

Mounting block, Kings Arms
These steps were an important feature in the days when horses were the common mode of transport. The ladies with their long skirts would have had great difficulty in mounting their horses (even side-saddle) without the aid of these steps.
