Coldharbour Mill - gas retort house
Coldharbour Mill had its own gasworks and this empty retort house is testament to this. The orange fencing surrounds part of the original plumbing.

Uffculme : Coldharbour Mill - Chimney
At 38.4 metres this is the second chimney at the site. The lower section is double skinned to give it strength and stability. Bonding the brickwork with lime mortar gives it flexibility enabling it to withstand high winds. Two lightning conductors have been fitted.

Coldharbour Mill - inside the economiser
Although not a great picture this is a very unusual view of the tubes with a Green's economiser complete with the soot scraper assemblies that move up and down to keep the tubes free from soot. The economiser uses residual heat in the boiler flue gases to preheat the boiler feed water and thus reducing the fuel bill. This economiser is no longer in use and this view has been created for the visitor to this museum of the woollen industry. Unfortunately the museum seems to like coloured lighting with changing hues, hence the purple cast on this image.

Coldharbour Mill - the economiser house
This is a relatively new addition to the visitor route. The economiser sits in the flues between the boilers and the chimney and extract residual heat from the flue gases to warm the boilee feed water. Although this is no longer in use it has been cleaned and displayed as a visitor attraction.
