Barnet: Ravenscroft Gardens
This land once formed part of Barnet Common, which was partly enclosed in 1729 and fully in 1815. In the 1880s, when a new road, Ravenscroft Park, and new housing were being built here, a small area of the remaining open land, between Ravenscroft Park and Wood Street, with a pond was converted into this public park. It was originally called Barnet Recreation Ground, but it was later named after James Ravenscroft, a leading benefactor of Barnet. Serpentine walks formed part of the original layout. There used to be two ornamental ponds in the park, but these were drained in 1992.

Last orders at the Black Horse pub
The steel shutters were placed over the windows during August and it seems unlikely that this will open again as a pub-gone the same way as the Alexandria, The Green Man, The Albion, The Jug and Trumpet and probably others that I have forgotten about.

Barnet: The Black Horse
The Black Horse is on Wood Street at the busy junction with The Avenue and at the eastern end of Ravenscroft Gardens. It is also the home of the Barnet Brewery. The pub's website is here http://www.blackhorsebarnet.co.uk/home/4573648812

The Black Horse
The public house sits on Union Street at the junction with Wood Street. This is a very busy mini-roundabout with through traffic along Wood Street merging with traffic from the carparks behind Barnet High Street.
