St Thomas Square
St Thomas' Square was built alongside the southern end of Mare Street by 1800, and was laid out as a public garden in 1892 by Hackney District Board. It is seen here from the entrance off Mare Street.

The Nelsons' drinking fountain next to St Thomas Square
St Thomas' Square was built alongside the southern end of Mare Street by 1800, and was laid out as a public garden in 1892 by Hackney District Board. The drinking fountain dates from 1912 and is made of pink and grey polished granite. The inscription on the base says "Presented to the Hackney Borough Council by Morris Nelson Esq in memory of his wife Esther.
