Columbia Road Flower market on a wet Sunday
Despite the damp weather, the market traders were still doing a good trade selling plants and flowers in the Columbia Road Street Market in Hoxton on this May morning. It's become an important and colourful part of the East End Market scene

Columbia Road E2, Sunday flower market
Plants and flowers of all kinds were on sale - including trays of wallflower seedlings, bunches of roses, exotic indoor plants and sizeable olive trees in pots. Despite the cold and rain there was a steady trade in Christmas trees. As well as the traditional Norway Spruce (Picea abies) there were alternatives that were less prickly and less likely to drop their needles on the living room carpet - Noble Fir (Abies procera), I think, and Serbian Spruce (Picea omorika), useful for its slender habit.

Speckled green tiles, The Birdcage, Columbia Road E2
How do they do that? The pub awaits its photographer. The two frontages on Gosset Street will be better lit. Does very good coffee.
