East Quay, Tobacco Dock
As seen from Reardon Street.
As its name suggests, Tobacco Dock was where tobacco imported from overseas was unloaded from ships then stored. Most of the dock has been filled in apart from a canal.
The whole area was once occupied by the London Docks, but is now largely used for housing.

Tobacco Dock, Wapping
In the days of the London Docks, Tobacco Dock served the huge Tobacco Warehouse, seen in the left background and a Grade I listed building. It is an event venue, film and TV location and more: https://tobaccodocklondon.com Wikipedia has an interesting history at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_Dock The large building in the distance is the multi-storey car park for the venue. From their flowers the handsome grasses in the water (sensibly restrained) look like Reed Sweet-Grass (Glyceria maxima)

The Ornamental Canal, Wapping
The canal is 'ornamental' in the sense that it is not navigable. It no longer links to other waterways, although it originally linked two docks, and has weirs across it that would prevent navigation anyway. It provides a quiet route into the City for cyclists.

This is from the excellent "Tired of London, Tired of Life" site, a blog for "flaneurs" http://www.tiredoflondontiredoflife.com/2010/11/see-pirate-ships-at-tobacco-dock.html
"In front of Tobacco Dock, the huge 1990s shopping folly built in a grade I listed warehouse in Wapping, sit two metal 'pirate ships', forever becalmed in a dry dock sealed off from the neighbouring canal. In truth, on closer inspection these are not real ships, and were built to entertain the children whose parents never came to shop at a shopping centre which never was."

Walkways and water, Tobacco Dock, Wapping
In the days of the London Docks, Tobacco Dock served the huge Tobacco Warehouse, seen in the background and a Grade I listed building. It is an event venue, film and TV location and more: https://tobaccodocklondon.com Wikipedia has an interesting history at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_Dock The different types of railing deserve a comment. The grey fence at the back with mesh panels appears to be a generic style for the venue: unobtrusive but effective. The black straight-railed fence guards the public at the change of level. The chains at the water's edge also guard the public but would be easy to get over or through to give assistance to anyone or their dog who had managed to fall in. From their flowers the handsome grasses in the water (sensibly restrained) look like Reed Sweet-Grass (Glyceria maxima)
