Top of Mitton Street near junction with Lion Hill & Vale Road
Mitton Street is part of Stourport-on-Severn's one way system. There can be no doubt it speeds the traffic up as motor vehicles habitually speed round here at 30mph or higher. But for pedestrians this area is a nightmare so consequently not many people walk along the narrow pavements as crossing the road is very difficult and even on the pavements there is always the fear of getting hit by an out-of-control vehicle.

Public garden and former drill hall by Lion Hill, Stourport
The garden is called Villeneuve le Roi "to celebrate the twinning of our two towns 1972" according to the dilapidated nearby board.
The drill hall, with offices and accommodation were opened on 30 December 1911. The hall was demolished, and the arch with apartments to its left replaced it by 2002, the original Sergeant-Instructor's house on the right also being converted into flats. (Villeneuve Mews)

Christmas lights 2011 - Father Christmas, Lion Hill, Stourport-on-Severn
Father Christmas quite sensibly never comes down chimneys in Stourport-on-Severn, but instead prefers to arrive by canal narrowboat. Here he is moored by the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, although it is too dark to see the canal at night.

Mitton Street in Stourport, Worcestershire
Looking east across the junction with Vale Road and Lion Hill. The former Congregational Church dating from 1869-1870 is on the left. When the Congregational and Presbyterian churches combined it was re-named as the United Reformed Church. The URC congregation later merged with the Anglican congregation to worship at St Michael's Church so the building was used as St Wulstan's (RC) Community Centre. Closure, and plans to convert the building into living accommodation were published in 2016-2017.

Illuminated 2023 sign, corner of Lion Hill, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
Rotary International, who organise the town's Christmas lights, add to these on New Year's Day by putting up an illuminated sign showing the date of the New Year, in this case 2023. As normal, all the lights were switched off after the first few days of January, and the town was plunged into the usual gloom and cold of a typical January. Photographed on New Year's Day 2023.
